About nextstep

nextstep is a free careers service for adults:
- aged 20 or more
- aged 18 or 19, who have been referred to nextstep by Jobcentre Plus

We offer face-to-face help and support about training, learning and the world of work.

nextstep is a national service and this is the website for the West Midlands. The West Midlands covers the following areas: Birmingham & Solihull, Black Country, Coventry & Warwickshire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Shropshire & Staffordshire.

If you live outside the West Midlands you can find details of your local nextstep office from the Directgov nextstep website.

Our aim:

nextstep will give you access to information and advice on learning and work. Wherever you are, you will receive the same high-quality service:

We aim to:

  • be easy for you to find and use
  • be friendly and welcoming
  • be professional and really know our business
  • give you information and advice that is independent and unbiased to help you make informed decisions
  • make sure that the services we offer are relevant to you and suitable for all your needs
  • make you aware of all the local and national services that are useful to you
  • encourage and support you into learning or training, finding a job or making the most of the job you do now.

When you speak to your nextstep adviser, they will record information about you

  • We will only share this information when there is a good reason to do so.
  • The only reason nextstep West Midlands will pass on information without your permission is if there is a legal requirement or duty for nextstep West Midlands to do this.

We want you to have the best possible service from us. If you have a compliment, complaint or a suggestion to make, please tell us by:

  • Speaking to a member of staff
  • Completing and returning a “Tell us what you think” form

  • You also have the right to complain to an external body, such as your Member of Parliament, the Secretary of State, the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Commission for Racial Equality etc.
